Almanac

UI · UX · Brand · Web

Almanac ↗ is a series-A startup, building a modern document editor with features designed to support asynchronous work and decision-making.

I was the third design hire, and I spent a year and a half helping redesign and refine the UI/UX as we iterated toward finding product market fit.

Highlights: Oct 2021 – Jul 2022

The first half of my time was spent doing product design with the Growth team and brand design with the Marketing team.

I championed connecting the brand and product together, while working on projects between both teams.

Logo & Branding

Led a redesign that explored an evolution of the symbol, wordmark, and creation of guidelines.

Website design

Designed and art directed the expansion of a full marketing website, based on an initial homepage concept.

Paywall

I was tasked with designing the flow and entry points for when users are alerted to limits based on their subscription level.

Community Templates

I expanded our new aesthetic into the core template library ↗.

Marketing ads

I defined a system of product abstractions for use on ads.

Inbox

I redesigned our robust notifications ↗ to make it easier for users to take action on desktop or mobile.

Highlights: Jul 2022 – Feb 2023

In the latter half of my tenure, I was on product design with the Editor team, and collaborated with our Lead Designer on improving the document editing experience.

I worked on initiatives, big and small, to improve how our customers used our document editor.

Chrome v1

This redesign ↗ simplified the original nav to prevent decision fatigue, and focus more on document editing. I supported our Lead Designer and led the rebuild of the chrome and redesign of the Insert menu.

Responsive designs

I led the responsive design for editing ↗, commenting ↗, and doc reviews on mobile.

Activity feed

I iterated on the inline feed.

Chrome v2

We redesigned our nav to prioritize workflows and our decision-making protocol. Again, I supported our Lead Designer and led the rebuild of the chrome. I also led the redesign of the Format menu, along with improving the inline, contextual editing ↗ experience.

Progressive web app (PWA)

An out-of-browser ↗ experience.

Inline editing

Improving contextual formatting and inserting content ↗

New Editor features

Working on the Editor team meant balancing improvements to existing features, and adding new features to improve how our users get work done.

These are a few features I created in collaboration with my PM and engineering.
